Jeddah-based HUTA Group, a well-established conglomerate in the Middle East providing services and solutions across construction, marine works, environmental, water and public utilities sectors, has established itself as a major player in the Saudi Arabia’s economy contributing extensively to the development of the kingdom as an economic superpower.

Recently, Saudi Aramco signed a contract with a consortium comprising HUTA Hegerfeld and Saudi Archirodon Company Ltd for dredging, reclamation and marine facilities for the King Salman International Complex for Maritime Industries and Services Project in Ras Al-Khair.

Since then, we have undertaken works including dredging and construction of piers in Juaymah and Duba respectively; installation, reconditioning and removal of marine infrastructure, among a variety of other engineering services, at various Aramco project sites across the kingdom,' he says.

From 2000 to 2005, Saudi Aramco entrusted the companies of HUTA Group with the improvement of navigation and installation of piles at locations in Duba, Jeddah and Rabigh.

Over the next five years, HUTA Group was awarded several projects by Saudi Aramco including the construction of a reverse osmosis plant with a seawater open intake with a capacity of 2 x 10,000 cu m per day at Rabigh in 2006. Immediately after, HUTA was responsible for the construction of the Ro-Ro and sulphur berths at the Rabigh Refinery.

In 2009, in cooperation with Saudi Binladen Group, HUTA Group was awarded the contract for the construction of marina and marine services as part of the King Abdullah University of Science & Technology – Thuwal Town Development Project.

In 2013, Korean firm GS Engineering & Construction won the EPC contract for the expansion of PetroRabigh’s refining and petrochemical complex, located approximately 150 km north of Jeddah, from the Saudi Aramco and Sumitomo PetroRabigh joint venture. The contract was for EPC works for the second phase of expansion of the PetroRabigh Petrochemical Complex, with completion slated for the first half of 2016. The expansion further enabled the complex to produce 30 million cubic feet per day of ethane and 3 million tonnes of naphtha per year, to be used as feedstock to produce a variety of petrochemical products.

HUTA Marine was awarded the construction works of the liquid nitrogen gas loading facilities at Berth #4 along with the design and installation of the steel structure on top of the loading platform. The liquid nitrogen gas loading facility was broken into six mooring dolphins, five breasting dolphins and a loading platform, all of which are concrete structures suspended over the sweater on top of steel piles driven into the seabed.

HUTA Marine was responsible for the design, fabrication, and installation of the steel interconnecting structures between the mooring, breasting, and loading platforms in addition to the steel pipe rack structures on top of the loading and access platform. 'We completed the construction in compliance with the quality, safety requirements and regulation standards of Saudi Aramco and PetroRabigh, and were awarded for achieving ten million safety man-hours without lost time injury,' he says.

Saudi Aramco selected HUTA Marine Works Ltd as the EPC contractor for the upgrade works for Dareen Fishing Port in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia in 2015. HUTA Marine commissioned COWI to provide consultancy services for undertaking the detailed design services of the marine works of the project in relation to the works of large boat marina breakwater extension, small boat marina breakwater addition, causeway road widening, car parking lot including revetment protection and small boat inspection platform. The project reached 95.84 per cent completion as of May 10, 2017.

In 2016, HUTA Group was selected for the development of the marine phase of Baish Corniche in Jizan. The contract mentions the undertaking of dredging and excavation activities, and the construction of breakwaters, coast guard jetty and quay walls, beach and fishing harbour.
