Trans Asia ... developing in the region

The company has expanded geographically to new markets beyond GCC and it hopes to add a couple of new services in the very near future

UAE-based Trans Asia Pipeline Services is showcasing hot tapping and industrial services in addition to pipeline services at this year’s Adipec.

"Trans Asia has been exhibiting at Adipec for past four years and Adipec, being the most prominent event in eastern hemisphere, gives us a great opportunity to showcase our capabilities and new technologies/product development besides offering wide networking opportunities and market reach across Asia and Africa," says Surendranath Dhanekula, managing director of the company.

Trans Asia has recently formed a joint venture with PTS of UK and through PTS’s technology the company is offering hot tapping services. "We have also expanded geographically to new markets beyond GCC and we hope to add a couple of new services in the very near future which will be announced shortly," says Dhanekula.

Dhanekula ... expanding

Across the GCC Trans Asia is working with oil producing companies such as Adnoc, Saudi Aramco and Dubai Petroleum. It is also the preferred service provider for a majority of EPC contractors, he says.

The $20 million company was first set up in Abu Dhabi in 2004. It later built an equipment manufacturing facility at Hamriyah Free Zone, Sharjah and has offices in Dammam, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.

The Hamriyah facility houses a 15,000 sq m equipment yard, an engineering and design centre, a self- sustained workshop with 10 tonne EOT crane, manufacturing facilities including fabrication and machine shops, a large lathe, CNC, rotary drills and a universal milling machine, instruments room for service and calibration, 15 tonne forklifts and a pumps testing facility for flow and pressure testing.

At Dammam the company has a 12,000 sq m yard besides making available equipment and resources in-country, thereby maximizing the in-kingdom value addition, he says.

Referring to business levels, he says there has been a huge spending in the oil and gas Industry in the UAE and compared to last year "we are seeing a multifold increase in revenues as well as new opportunities domestically".

With the rise in oil prices the overall industry outlook is positive. "After a prolonged slowdown we are seeing a number of green-field projects on the anvil as well as a number of brownfield projects in the bidding stage. We hope this momentum goes for next few years," he says.

Trans Asia has experience pre-commissioning over 10,000 km of pipelines. With the help of some 400 dedicated and skilled employees, it has executed jobs for almost all oil companies in Middle East, India and South East Asia.

The company has experience working with all major plant operators and contractors operating in Asia besides being the preferred contractor and service provider for plant turnaround, shutdowns and maintenance, he says.

The company’s pipeline services include pipeline cleaning and pigging, pipeline hydrostatic testing/pneumatic testing, bulk Dewatering and swabbing, drying (with air or vacuum dry), nitrogen purging/packing and pipeline inertisation, commissioning assistance, hot tapping and internal geometry survey (by caliper tool or intelligent tool).
