Bafco’s skilled staff pay attention to every detail to ensure each fuelling is completed safely

BAHRAIN Aviation Fuelling Company (Bafco) continues to play an important role in the supply of on specification fuel into aircraft safely and on time at the Bahrain International Airport.

Bafco is a service provider set up to provide the aviation refuelling service and operations at the airport for its three shareholders.

As the Bahrain International Airport Company continues to develop infrastructure to meet the expected demand of growth in line with the kingdom’s Vision 2030 so does Bafco.

Under the direction of the shareholders, Bafco is about to commit to a BD16 million ($42.4 million) project to construct a new supply depot within the confines of the Bahrain International Airport.

The current airport hydrant supply depot at Arad which receives aviation fuel from Bapco’s Sitra refinery now sits in a considerably congested area.

The proposed new depot will not only remove the hazard of fuel tanks from the current congested area at Arad but will give Bafco increased storage capacity which will also cater to a supply contingency if the product is not immediately available. This is a serious commitment of funds in the current aviation environment, however Bafco’s commitment to meet the growth of the airport and the company’s prerequisite to supply clean on specification fuel to aircraft, safely, helped the shareholders make the commitment.

Bafco was formed in 1985 and now in its 28th year, it received a Global Operations Excellence Award from one of its shareholders, Air BP, in the safe operations division.

The award was given in recognition of safety management during the implementation of several large projects by Bafco in the last two years to align itself for the expansion of the airport.

All of these projects were completed on time and without any lost time injury in the construction of these unique projects.

Bafco was selected by Air BP’s CEO from the many global submissions for the award which highlights the high safety standards set by the team.

Bafco has now exceeded 750,000 hours without a lost time injury between its staff and contractors and anticipates passing the 1million hours mark at the end of 2013.
