Ghanem ... Sabic Conference is a great opportunity

The cloud-based ClearView app is a full end-to-end connected services concept targeting plant optimisation/efficiency, reliability as well as on-the-job training of plant personnel


Haldor Topsoe will be participating at Sabic Conference 2020 to present ClearView, a cloud-based real-time optimisation application, which also performs early detection.

Commenting on ClearView, Mahmoud Ghanem, Head of Haldor Topsoe, Saudi Arabia, says: "ClearView offers real-time optimisation and early event detection algorithms running in cloud-based environments (IIoT platforms). These systems are starting to shape the future of best-practice operation of chemical plants."

He says several "building blocks" are required for such a concept to successfully ensure real value for the plant operators.

This information will be presented in a technical paper read out at Sabic Conference 2020.

He says Sabic conference 2020 offers great opportunity for Haldor Topsoe to present its latest products to key clients.

For the company, Saudi Arabia as a whole is a gold mine of opportunities. Ghanem says: "Saudi Arabia is full of opportunities related to petrochemicals, oil and refineries. And being a world leader in catalyst and related technologies, we at Haldor Topsoe see many opportunities to improve plants efficiency through revamps and installing latest catalyst in addition to bringing state-of-the-art technologies (that is ammonia, methanol and hydrogen)."

An office in Saudi Arabia, he adds, has brought Haldor Topsoe closer to customers in the country. A very experienced technical service team, he says, is available for customers in the region.

Haldor Topsoe is working on various types of projects across the world. Recently, state-owned Turkmengaz in Turkmenistan started the world’s largest methanol plant based on Haldor Topsoe’s proprietary SynCOR autothermal reforming methanol-conversion technology.

The plant was inaugurated at the operator’s recently commissioned natural gas-to-gasoline complex at Ovadan-Depe near the capital, Ashgabad.

There are similar many other projects underway in North America, China and Africa.

Haldor Topsoe has developed leading specialist technologies for global customers through its in-house research and development department and in close cooperation with external research organisations and academia.

An example here is TopClaus sulphur recovery, which combines the best of two proven technologies, says Ghanem.

He explains: "The TopClaus sulphur recovery solution combines the industry-standard Claus gas desulphurising process and the Topsoe wet gas sulphuric acid process (WSA) to achieve 99.9+ per cent sulphur removal efficiency (SRE) from acid gases – at a significantly lower cost of ownership."

Ghanem says: "You will get the best of two thoroughly-proven sulphur recovery technologies – combined for even greater benefits.

"The Claus part of the TopClaus solution is identical to the Claus technology that you know," he adds.

Haldor Topsoe is a global leader in catalysis in addition to also being a technology company that provides licensing and process plants in the chemical and petrochemical sector.

The company, for example, provides hydrotreating and hydrocracking design and catalyst in refineries; it provides ammonia, methanol and hydrogen plant design and catalysts in petrochemical plants.
